We often meet couples who find it difficult to conceive. They deeply want to start a family, but when they can’t have one by traditional methods, they blame themselves for their situation.
However, thanks to the act of generosity that is egg donation, at the Babynova Clinic we have had the privilege of witnessing the change in the lives of these couples.
In this article, we will explain the process of egg donation, including how we carefully select and execute the procedure.
What is egg donation?
Egg donation is a process in which a woman donates her eggs to another person or couple who is having difficulty conceiving naturally. This assisted reproductive technique offers an opportunity for hope and life to those who are unable to produce viable eggs or have genetic problems that could be passed on to their children. These individuals wish to avoid the transmission of severe diseases.
Our screening procedure
At Babynova Clinic by Novafem, the egg donor selection process is rigorous and thorough.
We ensure that the donors meet the necessary medical and psychological requirements to guarantee the safety and well-being of both the donors and the egg recipients.
Therefore, we select candidates with great care to be respectively evaluated.
How do we evaluate our donors?
We have developed a strict selection protocol structured:
Medical evaluation
First, aspiring egg donors undergo a thorough medical screening.
Our team of fertility specialists performs a series of examinations and tests to evaluate the donor’s general and reproductive health.
Ideally, we choose candidates who are between the ages of 21 and 30 to ensure the highest quality eggs. Our tests include blood tests, ultrasounds, genetic testing, and ovarian reserve evaluations.
Only those women whose results meet established medical standards are considered to become egg donors.
Psychological evaluation
In addition to the medical evaluation, we conduct a psychological evaluation of all potential donors.
This process allows us to ensure that donors fully understand the emotional and psychological implications of egg donation.
It is our philosophy to provide emotional support to each of our patients.
We know in advance that undergoing complex medical procedures carries an enormous emotional burden. Our goal is to ensure that donors are mentally and emotionally fit to carry out this act of generosity and to guarantee the safety of all parties involved.
Confidentiality and anonymity
At Babynova, we guarantee egg donors’ and recipients’ confidentiality and anonymity.
This means that we reserve the right to preserve the identity of both parties. The donor will not know the identity of the recipients and vice versa. This approach protects the privacy of everyone involved in the process.
The Ovodonation Procedure
Once an egg donor has successfully passed all the tests and has given her consent, the egg donation procedure begins.
In this procedure, the donor undergoes hormone treatment to stimulate the production of multiple eggs instead of just one, as occurs naturally.
The hormone treatment usually involves the administration of drugs that stimulate the ovaries to produce more eggs than usual.
During this process, the donor is closely monitored by our medical team through ultrasounds and blood tests to ensure that the entire procedure runs safely and smoothly.
Once the eggs are in optimal condition, an egg retrieval procedure is performed.
This is an outpatient procedure that is performed under sedation or general anesthesia to ensure the donor’s comfort. Using a technique called follicular aspiration, the eggs are extracted from the ovaries through a needle under ultrasound guidance.
The extracted eggs are immediately used for in vitro fertilization (IVF) with the father’s or donor’s sperm.
When fertilization is successful, the embryo is transferred to the uterus of the pregnant woman to continue the pregnancy and subsequent birth of a healthy baby.
Egg donation, an altruistic act
Egg donation is an act of generosity that transforms lives.
For many couples, it is the only option to fulfill their dream of starting a family. At Babynova, we are honored to be able to facilitate this process and help so many parents’ dreams come true.
